Faster than anyone has thought, there is now come upon you a remarkable and dangerous era. Yes, the time is here when you will need to begin to control the world. Like it or not, you are virtually in charge of things as of now.

Success!
The proof of this is seen on every television screen, reviewed in every business magazine sold or used in every store, and involved in a thousand other things. To what do I refer? I refer to the new monster of our time, the computer. For many years, I have been speaking to attentive audiences about this. The picture is easy to describe. It is that the percentage of young people moving into responsibility in our time is going down. At the same time, those things for which the world needs to be responsible, that list is going up. Then, to enhance that dangerous trend, the world of youth is becoming master of the computer. As a consequence, there is a high demand for young people who know cybernetics and a fairly high despair on the part of older people who have no such mastery. One of the well-known illustrations of this is the life of Bill Gates. His economic capability makes it possible for him even now to command the respect of kings and princes across the world. He is the uncrowned king of the computer world and he has the papers, the awards and the trophies to prove it. He has more money than many entire governments so we can be sure that his perception and possessions will be of increasing influence in the days to come.

There is a related situation that we ought also to remember for just a moment. That is that the youth population in our time is being reduced while the demand for the labors of young people is expanding. Many a hamburger stand or pizza place are almost unable to continue because the young people are not there. We should have hundreds of thousands more students in the United States, but we do not. Why? It is because we are brutally killing 4,000 beautiful boys and girls every day with a ghastly practice called abortion. Who will drive the machinery, fly the airplanes, push the wheelchairs that will be needed in days to come? The answer is that the young people who would otherwise be doing this have rather become the occupants of early graves everywhere. The practice of abortion is one of the primary causes of the death of a generation of college-agers.

That fearful condition is also the result of the sexually transmitted disease being spread among young people. This was an almost unheard of condition a few years ago, but now it has become one of the primary causes of death in the teen and 20’s generation. Even the television advertisements now promote the taking of strong antibiotic capsules to slow down the voracious diseases now moving upon us.

What will happen to young people who are infected with these things as of now? The answer is that with very few exceptions, they will sicken and then die. Yes, the doctor that might have been, the scientist that could have perfected so much, the pilot that could have flown us anywhere, these people are simply not alive. This nation has given itself to both murder and suicide at the same time. The consequences, which are now moving upon us like lightning and thunder, are the cause of it.

Losing It All?
As if this weren’t enough, the drug scene presents a pitiful picture of disease and death. How strange it is that many a young scholar, smart enough to one day be a research physician, has become a drug addict, a possessor and a purveyor of death. It is amazing that beings so smart could commit the fearful cruelty of destroying themselves. This is not smart to say the least!

Helping in this program of the destruction of our culture is a pitiful creature called the homosexual. He has become a young man and many young men are foolishly inflaming illicit passions and with each experience many take a further step into reprobation. Anyone who says that the world is getting sweeter, nicer, or better ought to take another look out the side window. The evidence for an improving world is not there. But the evidence of advancing ruin is absolutely undeniable. We have a clear explanation of most of the problems of the world and of our personal lives given to us in the Word of God.

The Scripture says, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not [seemly]; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful” Then the Scripture goes on to say about these who turn to reprobation, “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:28-32).

Some may say, “Why are you discussing this with us?” The answer is that these words may save your life. Sophisticated people in our world are promoting some of the most obvious idiocy ever invented by the mind of man. They are saying that you can play with sin and walk away unscathed. Anyone who believes this is a fool, for “Fools make a mock at sin” (Prov. 14:9). Like millions of others, you will drop into an early grave and the total results of your life will only be a mother’s tears.

Let me give you another verse as your life may depend upon this. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). That means everybody—every teacher, every student, every preacher, every mafia type—everyone.

Is there an answer? There is. It is this. “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24). The word “justified” means to be declared righteous. It means to be forgiven of every sin—every sin, believe it or not! Thank God that the promise of the Bible is that every person, if he will believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, will be justified. So, the Word that I would recommend to you and every person alive is, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house” (Acts 16:31).

Now if we have that settled, let’s talk about another exciting thing. When we become Christians, we are in possession of talent, strength, enthusiasm, power, and a dozen other remarkable characteristics that are never known in the life of a person who hasn’t come to Jesus. But, if you have believed the Gospel, you are from there on out, a person of spiritual dynamite. That’s why the Apostle Paul said, “I beseech you … that you present your bodies a living sacrifice … to God … And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

Possibilities
Are you having trouble with your studies? Of course, very few people know it all. If you’ll take the time to pray, God will give you a mental capability better than you’ve ever known before. I promise that it is true. I know some ordinary people who asked that Christ would help them and they moved into a higher, better department in life.

There is no need to drop into depression, but rather to ask for the help of God. I promise, that with the help of God, you’ll never be depressed again. Can you master mathematics? I have a friend who prayed for the help of God in the subject of mathematics. He soon became a tutor of this cryptic science.

How about a girlfriend, a boyfriend? A lot of collegians are looking for the right person in that regard. I hope that no one will be so much of a fool as to simply grab a person of the opposite sex and marry her/him. Believe me, God has the perfect person for your life and you’ll never be sorry for finding that one. I once had a Sunday School teacher who said to us, “Boys, let me tell you something. The girl that you marry will be the greatest blessing this side of heaven or the greatest curse this side of hell!” How’s that for making it clear?

Are you interested in the world as such? Believe me, you are needed in the great cause of telling a world about God and about the Gospel. There are opportunities for you out there that will be wonderful beyond describing. When I volunteered for Christian work, I had no idea where all of that would lead. Among other things, I have visited more than 60 countries of the world and every one of them has a thrilling story to tell. No indeed, you do not have to sit home, bored to tears in the midst of a world like this.

Then let me say that there is, in my opinion, some very special things going in our present generation. We can travel faster, fly higher, think more deeply, influence others even at a distance. Yes, more things to do than the world ever offered in any other generation. Therefore, God, in our generation, would like to say to millions of bright young people, “Think of yourself as being called ‘for such a time as this’” (Esther 4:14). The same goes for you, young lady, young man. This is a very special time in which to be alive. It is a time in which each of us can be greatly equipped to live a life of great adventure for the Lord.

Coming Exam
Sooner or later, each one of us is going to stand in judgment before God. He will ask what you and I have done with the one life we could live in this world. Many will be forced to confess that they blew it all, that they wasted their irreplaceable life. Don’t you be one of those. Rather, start now to think, to pray, to consider the possibilities. You’ll discover that with God’s help, you can live a life that will be grand. More than that, with a life lived for Christ, you can stand one day before God and hear Him say the greatest possible words, “Well done, good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy lord” (Matt.25:23). There is nothing in this world that is worth so much as that divine congratulation. In fact, there is nothing in this world that is worth anything apart from the approval of God. All that we may ever do will finally turn into dirt and ashes unless it was done in the name of Christ and for His glory. All other considerations mean nothing. But the ones that are brought to pass because of the blessing of God, they are what counts!

Our congratulations to you if you are graduating this year. All the best for the years, the lifetime to come. Our prayer for you, if there is still before you a year or two, or three, or more, of study, is that you will face top-flight opportunity in the days to come. By the way, why not take the time to write Mom and Dad and thank them because of what they have done to make your college education possible? Also, take the time today and every day to thank God for what He is enabling you to do.
