The Tide of Our Times

“The King James Version of the Bible, also known as the ‘Authorized Version,’ marks its 400th anniversary in 2011, and by any measure, it has had a lasting impact on the world and on the language into which it was sent...

Indeed, many of its phrases have entered everyday use, among them: ‘my brother’s keeper,’ ‘salt of the earth,’ ‘give up the ghost,’ ‘scapegoats,’ ‘an eye for an eye,’ ‘casting your pearls before swine,’ ‘scarlet woman,’ ‘writing on the wall’ and ‘the blind leading the blind.’...

Geof Morin, communications director for the American Bible Society, whose New York headquarters will host a King James Bible exhibit next year, called the King James ‘still relevant’ in the age of Twitter and Facebook...

‘In many ways, the KJV held a monopoly in English from about 1700 to 1950, as no other translation was seen as being significant over that period. Nowadays, there are multiple [English language] translations.’

That may be the case, but there may be life in the older text yet.

Compare its ‘Give us this day our daily bread,’ found in Matthew 6:11, to the rendering in ‘The Message,’ a popular modern version: ‘Keep us alive with three square meals.’” Mark A. Kellnor, The Washington Times

“Hey Mom! Look What’S NEW at the Creation Museum—Over a dozen new, exciting exhibits designed especially for children were installed in the Creation Museum,” in Petersburg, Kentucky. “Called the ‘Knee High’ museum, these displays are interactive in nature, allowing children to have a hands-on experience as they journey through the museum’s walk through biblical history.” Answers In Genesis

“For God, No Thing Is Impossible, and He will bring Israel back in the end times scenario as a nation of twelve tribes—just as it was considered hardly possible for the founding of an Israeli state and modernization of the Hebrew language. It is very impressive that people such as Rabbi Eliyahu Avichail, are seeking descendants of Israel all over the world through the Elijah project: in China, in the former Soviet Union, in India, Japan, Italy, Peru or Mexico. This is not about the well-known Diaspora Jews, who meet in synagogues and Jewish centers, and even have their own schools in larger cities, but about very old lines. The efforts are devoted to discovering Jews and bringing them back to Israel...

‘Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there(Ezekiel 39:28). This has never been fulfilled!...

The regathering in the land of Israel is taking place before our very eyes, and will finally be completed by God Himself.” News From Israel

“When General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps, he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps... He said, ‘Get it all on record now—get the films—get the witnesses—because somewhere down the road of history [someone] will get up and say that this never happened.’

Recently, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it ‘offends’ the Muslim population which claims it never occurred...

Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be ‘a myth,’ it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets...How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center ‘NEVER HAPPENED’ because it offends some Muslim in the United States?” The Issachar File

“Charting a New Course in Ecuador—Mission Aviation Fellowship is preparing for a new era of ministry as its historic program in Ecuador transitions to ‘affiliate program’ status.

In June 2009, MAF gave operational control of the program to an Ecuadorian board. The U.S. organization will continue to provide staff and counsel as needed during the transition and into the future.” Mission Aviation Fellowship

On a Personal Note. John Epp, a member of our office staff for 17 years, recently returned from the funeral of his uncle, Rev. Arthur Schmidt. Rev. Schmidt was the speaker at the memorial service of the 5 slain missionaries in ECUADOR many years ago. Nate Saint, one of the men killed, was a friend of Dave’s. Nate’s wife Marge became a dear friend of mine.

We rejoice with Paul and Joanne Klassen. Paul, a well-known cattleman and grain farmer has come through serious open-heart surgery and is convalescing at home with a good prognosis. Joanne was Dave’s executive assistant for many years and remains in a similar position here in Christian Destiny. CB
