The European Union will soon be adding 10 more nations with over 75 million citizens bringing its total membership to 25 with a population of over 450 million. “If all goes to plan, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Solvenia will become part of the EU family in only 17 months time. With their accession, the EU will reach the vaguely defined border lands of old Europe.”

But, concerning future admissions, there are differing opinions as to which countries should be allowed and whether or not those outside of “traditional” Europe should be allowed to join at all, with some saying that Turkey, Russia, and the Ukraine should definitely not be allowed in. Turkey is especially troublesome in their eyes due to its Muslim majority.

British sources point out, though, that “Turkey’s history … is inseparable from Europe’s whether one looks back to the ancient Greeks or to the subsequent Rome, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires.” “The Romans, who ruled Europe for centuries, called the Mediterranean ‘our sea’ and there is no reason to think any differently now.”

Christian Blind Mission International is currently preparing shelter and aid for fleeing Iraqi refugees seeking help in Jordan. CBMI plans to care for the injured, including those who may have severe eye and ear injuries and those who urgently need orthopedic intervention. It is estimated that more than 100,000 Iraqi people will stream into Jordan. CBMI also will have a coordinator working at Palestine Hospital later this week.

Radio Encounter opens doors to broadcast the Gospel in Mexico. Michael Escalante, president of Radio Encounter International , Inc., has established a Base of Operations in Mexico City, receiving approval from government officials to broadcast the Gospel on the public airwaves. They are already broadcasting Christian programming daily on a radio station in Mexico City that has a potential audience of 17 million people.

The Church played an instrumental role in the elimination of slavery and the establishment of civil rights in this nation. Today, the Church has been silenced on abortion and many other issues of consequence, each of which stem from questions of theology.

Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina has introduced the Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (H.R. 235). This bill repeals the Johnson amendment and restores religious liberty protection to churches in America.
